Indochina Parliamentary Summit Begins in Laos

VIENTIANE: The Cambodian-Vietnamese-Laos Parliamentary Summit (CLV) is being held in Laos this week, where parliamentary leaders meet for the first time this year to promote the development triangle that the three countries have established.

Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sodary met with Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Lao’s National Assembly, on Monday morning, December 4. Khuon Sodary said that the development triangle establishes the three countries as economic, tourism and digital hubs serving the interests of the countries and their peoples.

The official opening of the first Summit was held on December 5 in the Lao capital of Vientiane. The development triangle consists of 13 border provinces: five in Vietnam, four in Laos and four in Cambodia, namely Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie and Stung Treng. The triangle’s goal is to create an area of peace, cooperation and sustainable development in the name of progress.

The development triangle is a region with great potential for natural resources and biodiversity. The summit hopes to enhance parliamentary mechanisms to further develop the area, including mobilizing financial resources to build and develop the region as an economic, trade, tourism and technology hub.
